the bedoyo (bedhaya) dance on night parade of jogja java carnival 2009. the bedoyo is a sacred ritualized dance of java, associated with the royal palaces of jogyakarta and surakarta. the bedhaya epitomized the elegant character of the royal court, and the dance became an important symbol of the ruler's power. jogja java carnival 2009 is an event to celebrate the 253rd anniversary of jogjakarta city. fourteen hundred people, in 25 performance group, participated in this thematic cultural night parade themed 'past, present, and future' held on saturday night 17 october 2009.
